This is somewhat related to an old thread:
However that was an elevated slab.

In short, is there a quantifiable impact to the strength of a reinforced slab on grade if select rebar are drilled through/severed (for LST anchoring)? Rebar is avoided when possible with use of GPR, but some is unavoidable. Obviously holes with anchors are filled with appropriate high strength epoxy.
Thanks

Edit: Also, is there literature about this

How long is a piece of string?

Or, in your case: how many rebars will be cut in a given proximity, what is the slab thickness, what are the imposed loads, and how good was/is the ground preparation/subbase?

Generally speaking, no - there will not be a significant impact on strength if you cut bars in a slab on grade. That is because reinforcement in you typical slab on grade is there for T&S control only, and usually not even enough to do that. Your average slab on grade is generally considered "non-structural."

That said, there are exceptions. Is this a PEMB slab? If so, tread lightly. That rebar could be a tension tie holding a rigid frame together. Is the subgrade absolute junk? It could be a structural slab that is actually spanning between grade beams and the "subgrade" was intended to be nothing more than "formwork."

So as alluded to by Ingenuity and Tom, you may be ok, you may not be. There a lot of variables.

Thanks for the input. As stated, this is for a liquid storage tank (100K+ gallons) 24 thick with #5 12"o.c. Only top reinforcing bars would be cut, not bottom. Maybe 3 or 4 of 18 would need this. Pretty tight and sturdy grid, but is the impact to strength every outright quantified?

All I can say is that the slab is not improved by cutting rebar...

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?
