Drawing Conversion from Mylar to Acad needed

I've been handed a project that is old...real old, say '90. I need to get the project drawings converted from sepia to Acad. Any ideas?

I've heard that India has companies that perform conversion at a cheap rate. Has anyone used such a company? If so, I could use some contact info. Thanks in advance.

Hoagie, you just made me feel old...real old. I graduated in '90. We have plans in the basement from the '20's.

Call graphics companies in your area, and ask if they have a wide format scanner. If, so, ask them how much it would cost to get tiffs of your plan sheets at say 300 dpi. Then you can import the images to CAD.

Alternately, dig up a large Calcomp pad, tape the plans to it and trace them with the mouse.

There are companies in the US that will take paper/mylar drawings and convert them into AutoCAD drawings, not images but drawings.

the technology has been around for a long time as I was converting sepia (also linen and vellums) to autocad back in the 80's...

best way is to digitize using a large format digitizer or by tracing over the scanned image (on the screen)

there is also software out there that can be used to automatical generate vectors from a raster scanned image - not as good as digitizing

one problem with both of these methods is distortion and errors introduced by the scanning or digitizing process. Also bear in mind that if this was done by hand, don't expect your drawing accuracy to very good.

~lol, ACTraffic...sorry for the shove...FYI, I graduated in '88, so here's to us geezers (clink-clink). How the Propecia working for you? I still use Rogaine.

Thanks for all the good advice, guys and gals. I need drawing files (edits) and not just the images--the sheet count of the sepias is about 25 sheets. So, the old CalComp won't be fired up anytime soon.

FYI..I found a company in India that can perform the conversion for $8/hr. I've attached a link for those whom find an interest.
