Hi,

"Don't prompt to save read-only reference documents (discard changes)" is a system option in SW. When I saveas an existing assembly as a new assembly with selected parts renamed, SW forces me to save all those Read-Only parts that are not renamed. Imagine that you have an assembly with 100 parts. You want to save this assembly as a new assembly with 10 parts renamed. The other 90 parts (Read-Only) will just be reused with no changes in this assembly. However, SW asks you if you want to save those parts 90 times. This is very annoy. Is there a way to bypass this? I never had this problem with SW before 2008.

Hi Alex,

We often run into this problem here at work with Solidworks 2008, usually because multiple people are working on parts of an assembly while I'm working on that assembly. If you can get them to close out, the saving process moves forward without the READ-ONLY prompt.

Unfortunately for changing prompt options, I find that I often keep checking the box "check this box to not show this message again" and other various options. I have also opened other assemblies and been rewarded with my options being changed such as set all parts to lightweight.

PDM works is also available using a "Check-In" "Check-Out" system. Nonetheless, I don't see a direct bypass to the problem. If you do discover a bypass, please let me know.

Hi, Kyle:

Thanks for the quick reply!

All my read-only parts are in our Vault, and are secured via network security. So, it does not matter whether other users open these documents or not. Additionally, I know for sure that no one are opening these documents while I am renaming them.

This happens to all my coworkers (16 seats). This never happened before SW08.

I guess that makes for a good argument not to get Solidworks 2009, lol.
