Does Anyone Have Bolting Problems

Have you, your company or anyone know where bolting seizure is a problem apart from the power industry. I am doing a paper on bolting problem for my thesis for uni and would like some ideas.

In the chemical industry it can be a problem. Many flange joints require A193 B7 studs which cannot be galvanized or cad plated. One common way to improve the corrosion resistance is to apply a teflon based coating. Xylan is the trade name for one of these coatings. It also has the side benefit of reducing the torque required to tighten a joint.

Can you give more details ? What roughly is bolt sizing range, diameter and length ?

Most bolting used in the process chmical industry is between 5/8" and 1" diameter. XYLAN, as mentioned above, is good stuff...

"Studs" (non-headed lengths of threaded stock) with double nuts on either end are frequently used in mecanical joints simply because if one end jams, chances are good that the other can be loosened.

I would search the net (use GOOGLE, the best there is...)and use "galling" and "threaded" as keywords..
