Do shell offsets cause shell edge loads to induce moment?

If I have a shell edge load and choose the "middle" offset for the shells, what sort of differences should I see compared to when I apply the same loads but with an offset of "top" or "bottom"?

I've done a simple test and see a difference of about 6%.

However, I am wondering if this is a coincidence (I ran a simple beam with compression load), because I am applying a shell load on a much more complex model with various offsets and composite material properties and the difference between when I set all shells to the "bottom" and when I offset them so the load is applied to the middle (not the "middle offset" because all the shell elements have different thicknesses)...the results are vastly different.
