Hello,

I had a question relating to the difference between Explicit and Implicit solvers, especially in the quasi-static limit. I know that Abaqus simulations require us to specify a mass density. I can understand that this is essential for Explicit jobs, which are designed to take inertia into account. But is it also important for the Implicit solver, especially if I am using the in-built quasi-static option? Also, what about the static solver? Does it require the mass density as well?

Thank you.

Implicit dynamic analyses require density, regardless of the application type (since those differ only in terms of the time integration algorithm). For general static simulations, you don’t need density unless you want to use gravity/inertia loads.

So, to summarise, dynamic analyses (explicit or implicit) always require a mass densit, whereas a static analysis only requires it for gravity/inertia loads? Perfect, thank you!
