An odd situation, but would a chlorine level of 20-30 mg/l interfer or give a false iron reading from the FerroVer reagent?

Thanks

The FerroVer Iron Reagent reacts with all the soluble and most of the insoluble iron in the sample to produce soluble iron(II) ions. This reacts with 1,10-phenanthroline indicator to produce an orange color in proportion to the iron concentration.

The chlorine will probably interfere with the reading because the chlorine will oxidize the iron and make the sample turbid. You would have to add more reagent to make the iron soluble again.

See the statement from Hach:

"For turbid samples, treat the blank with one 0.1-g scoop of RoVer Rust Remover. Swirl to mix."
