Hi all,

I am running a modal analysis to extract the natural frequencies. When I plot the deformed shape the first 2 mode shapes appear as expected, but after that they are highly distorted and jagged. Any ideas as to what could cause this? Material properties?

thanks in advance,
chris

For higher modes you're probably seeing individual nodes apparently buckle, and hence the jagged shape. Look at the results to see if they're mesh dependent by behaviour and try refining the mesh.
