I have a second floor wood shear wall...supported by a wood beam....under current code beam / posts need to be designed to withstand OMEGA * Eh forces....with 1.2 allowable stress increment...

I am confuse...when it comes to post designing....my original slender "K" factor to use was a 2.4....but that seems way off....as the post is supported by the wood diaphragm....and surrounding shear walls...

I am thinking on using a K =1....instead...

What do you guys do..in similar cases...

Yup, that sounds like K=1 to me unless your post is somehow providing sway stability to the floor deck immediately above it which is rare.
