We are planning to discharge washwater from a microstrainer (algae only, no chemicals will have been added) and from secondary manganese filters (chlorinated). The microstrainer backwash is to be discharged back to the reservoir but the manganese backwash water requires treatment before discharge to a burn. Does the use of cartridge GAC filters (Mn removal) followed by bag filters (Cl2 removal) in series sound feasible?

Another possible option is discharge to a soakaway for the Mn backwash water- does effluent to a soakaway require any upfront treatment e.g. would we need to dechlorinate prior to discharge to a soakaway.

Many Tahnks,

Not familiar with the terms that you are using. You probably want to discharge to a sump or pit and then allow the solids to decant.

Use of a filter on the effluent from a filter is probably not practical.
