Not sure if this came up anywhere but this old rusting tanker in Yemen was in the news about 2-3 years ago - typical report -
I just saw on a news feed the UN has successfully transferred the cargo to another tanker.

So not a disaster, but shows what can be done with a few hundred million dollars....

...as long as the cost of salvage is recovered from the sale of oil... and if more then the company should be billed for the difference.

So strange to see the singularity approaching while the entire planet is rapidly turning into a hellscape. -John Coates

The politics of this oil transfer was and still are awful.

Current state:
There is no agreement on how oil sale will proceed and U.N. officials in Yemen will soon begin negotiations with the country's conflicting groups in an attempt to agree on how to share the proceeds of a sale of the oil, which is majority owned by Yemeni state firm SEPOC. This is still a somewhat active war zone.

I initially thought they were going to sail away with the oil but apparently they are going to hook it up to a shore line at a CALM buoy!

But the issue was the terrible condition of the 45 Yr old storage tanker.
