Hi there,

I am working on a small scale spinner system for growing mammalian cells. Spinners are labscale instruments which are very different in terms of geometry of the impeller comapre to large scale or pilot scale bioreactors. Problem with this spinners is that there is no scale-up information available from the vendor or in literature. Spinners have impeller driven by magnetic force while bioreactors will have impeller driven by motor. Another complication is that the spinners have entirely different type of impeller, which raises question about the effective impeller diameter. I know that dimensional analysis solves this kind of complicated issues very easily but I don't know how to start for this problem.

Any help?

Thanks a lotin advance.

One more thing! I forgot to mention.
This whole exercie is to find equivalent of Re number for the Spinners.

For Bioreactors we know that Re = p * v * N * N / u
For spinners I am assuming here that the Re is function involving height too.

So how to go further???

If you can figure out the bulk fluid velocity in the glassware you can scale up the unit based on that.
