Hello I just recently started using Solidworks 2005 and I am having trouble. Sometimes when I double click on a dimension that I just made instead of bringing up the simple box to change the measurement it brings up a read only dimensions box that doesn't allow me to change anything. Any ideas? Thanks

If you are just placing a dimension to the part/assembly this is what should be expected.

If you double-click a feature in your tree you are able to change the dimensions from there. The blue dimensions are feature-driven and the black dimensions are sketch-driven.

The dimensions you can't change are DRIVEN dimensions - probably. Are you editing a part or a drawing? Right-click on it & see if you can "un-check" it.

I would say you don't have write access to the part or assy. To get write access click file --> get write access. Thats my 2 cents.

I suggest reading up on types of dimensions in "help".

Okay it's the Dimension Properties box that pops up as a read only. Any other ideas?

If you have placed a dimension in a drawing view by picking an entity or points, that dimension will be "Read only". You will not be able to modify the dimension.

If you placed the dimensions using the Insert > Model items method, you should be able to modify them.
