Hi folks, I have two questions here:

How difference are the design and operation of phase separators for the upstream oil and gas compared to those separators for the downstream activities (i.e refinary or petrochemicals)?

How different is the control system implemented for phase separators in both cases mentioned above? Especially when considering that the upstream oil and gas processes are commonly associated with slug flow and fluctuation of feed, while downstream always have steady flowrate.

Commenting only on te design, many upstream separators are designed with vertical demister elements. This practice is quite rare in downstream.
