I am trying to figure out the differences between the ACI 421.1 and 318 codes. Is it all in the equations? Namely, is the only difference in Vn, the nominal shear strength at the critical section, or are there some more subtle differences?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi!
The differences are on the field of application, not just on the equations. ACI318 is a building code, so the regulations are applicable just for buildings, not for example to bridges or nuclear power plant structures. I think it would be obvious fromt the title of ACI421.1 what its field of application is.
