I have two Detroit Diesels Model #8064-7612 92 Series DDC Engine which are our emergency backup Fire Water Pump engines. They are run weekly per NFPA 25 standards and have exhibited poor reliability over the years. Part of the reliability issues have been turbos which develop leaks and catch fire due to auto ignition of the lube oil. There is no pre-lube pump and the engine cranks up and immediately ramps to 2100 rpm which is full load. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this particular engine and if there are ways to improve the reliability. Also, is it possible to put an electronic governor to ramp up the machine over 20 seconds or does that violate NFPA standard?
