Detecting Relative Temperature Rise

I have a problem as follows;

I want to detect a temperature rise within a specific time period.
Essentially I am concerned with the relative rise and not the absolute value. I am therefore, subtracting 2 temp values recorded at a certain time interval apart, say 0.5 secs.

My question is;
Is there any off-the-shelf unit that will do this. My experience of Temperature Controllers (CAL) tells me that they don’t have a time function. They are only a function of temperature as such, and not time.

The current technology on the machines in question, is becoming obsolete. I want to replace the current purpose built board with an off-the-shelf unit if possible.

The unit should have 2 relay outputs, one for the temp rise and the other when a max temp is reached. The later is a safeguard.

There is a PLC on the machines but we don’t want to touch the program if possible. For retro-fits we would like our service guys to simply pop in the new unit.

Any ideas?

Do a search for "Differential Temperature Controller" there are many on the market ranging from analog to digital, inexpensive to highly sophisicated expensive units.
