Does 14.5 standard state anywhere that a detail view should not have hidden lines in it?

I have studied the ASME Y14.5M-94 and it does NOT show anything about not having hidden lines.

Just leafing through the standard right now, page 83 shows a circular part and it DOES have hidden line on the side view. Page 84 also reflects hidden lines.

Hope this helps.

I can't find anything that says detail veiws should not have hidden lines, in any of the Y14 series. In ASME Y14.2 section 2.4 it says that hidden lines should be ommitted when their use is not required for the clairity of the drawing. In ASME Y14.3 section 3.6.2 it says that section veiws don't generally show hidden lines but that is not the same as a detail view. The bottom line is I can't find anything "detail veiw" specific.

Thanks for your replies.
I am new to this and will pick up as I go along.
Thanks for the answers once again.

I'm not aware of anywhere in the standards where it says not to use hidden lines in detail views though as aardvarkdw puts, they should should generally only be used when they add clarity and otherwise should be omitted.

The one thing to remember with hidden lines is not to dimension to them, I can't remember which spec says this, I think 14.5 but don't have it to hand to check.
