Ontop of basic bend testing (root, face, side), which other methods of destructive testing are required for mild carbon steel? I should clarify, this is for natural gas pipelines.

I'm looking at the following test types:
-Tensile Test
-Guided-Bend Test
-Toughness Test
-Fillet-Weld Test

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Review the Code of construction (either B31.4 or B31.8) rules.

Thanks for responding so fast, however I was really just wanting to know if anyone already knew or could find out easily. I do not have codes b31.4 and b31.8 readily available at this time.

rmw84;
For the weld procedure qualification, you should follow ASME B&PV Code, Section IX guidelines. In this case, it would be bend and tensile testing. YOU need to review the Code of Construction (C of C) for impact testing requirements. YOU should have a copy of the pertinent C of C if you are working in this business.

Do you know which of the above applies for your application (B31.4 or B31.8)? This is a test.

metengr, I appreciate your help. I DO know that b31.8 applies for my application. However, I never asked that particular question. I am not able to look it up since I'm not around them at the moment, which is why I asked in the first place. This forum is used for informative purposes, which is what my question was intended for-- not to be redirected elsewhere. If every thread on this forum was answered with a simple "Go look at X", nobody would use it. I appreciate your answer, but please don't be so quick to judge someone's question as a sign of laziness. This being said, I DO appreciate your fast responses and knowledge of the pertaining matter.

I think that you would more likely to have to be following API 1104 rather than ASME IX! And, if you are having to do the tests and don't have access to the spec, don't tell the owner!

Thanks SJones,
I will look into the API 1104 code as well. I guess this was not previously mentioned, but this is not for a particular current project, just updating/revising some welding specs for the future.

Welding procedure qualification to either ASME IX or API 1104 requires tensile & bend tests. API 1104 also requires nick break tests.
