Hi guys,
I'm stuck with the design of discharge line (vent pipe) for the safety valve in a steam system used for protection of equipment i.e steam drum. The design is supposed to be of an open type (in my case vent pipe will not have umbrella fitting as described in the Caesar II technical reference) i.e the steam will be discharged to an atmosphere at a safe location. I've been given the discharge force so no need to calculate that. The problem I have is that the steam drum is sitting on top of another hot equipment so i have a large vertical displacement of a nozzle to which my safety valve is connected to, and I have to design the vent pipe which should be rigid so that it can withstand the discharge forces. I believe that the only way to solve this situation is to make my discharge line long enough to avoid excessive loading on my steam drum nozzle one one hand and to be able to support this line with an anchor to make it rigid on the other hand.
