Design Reinforcement for vertical loads but check for earthquake loads?

I am trying to analyse the effect of seismic loads on a building that has only has reinforcement design based on vertical loads. After removing design combinations related to earthquake loads, ETABS no longer checks the columns against the earthquake loading. How would I go about designing for vertical loads but checking the columns capacity against seismic loads?
