Design of underground piping

I am currently working on a project where I have to run a CO2 line underground. The line runs under a road. I am having trouble finding information related to design considerations for underground or buried piping. Any help with applicable codes, standards, or reference material would be appreciated.

Refer to ASME B31.1 Appendix VII Nonmandatory Procedures for The Design of Restrained Underground Piping. This is the only reference I know.

Consider looking up underground piping in the "Piping Handbook" by Nayyar....

Also consider the coating system that you will be using. The use of "coal tar epoxy" is common on underground piping systems.

Many piping systems also incorporate "insulation flange kits" at flanged connestions located just before (after?) the piping goes underground. The purpose of thes kits is to ensure that the system does not act as an un-intentional electrical ground and become subject to accelerated corrosion. Many natural gas systems (galvanized pipe)have had to be replaced in western PA because of improper grounding of telephone lines.....

You may want to place the pipe in an oversize casing for the section below the roadway. Check your state DOT specs as well as AASHTO.
