I am trying to get information on the theory, design, testing and common manufacturing practices of laminated and non-laminated Elastomeric Bridge Bearings. Does anyone know of any good reference material, etc. for these subjects? Is there any information available on their proper application (or problems with) these bearings in bridges? Thank you for your help in advance.

I assume that you've already reviewed the information in AASHTO which has a relatively new section for elastomeric bearings.

Check out the following references:

Bridge Engineering by D. Tonias
Theory and Design of Bridges by Xanthakos

and a new handbook

Bridge Engineering by Chen

The goal will be to look at the references for the section on bearings. There you will find in-depth treatment of the subject matter. The texts can only go so far.

Hi abjr,
NCHRP REPORT 449 will give you good info. By the way

Three real good references:

A "Bridge Crossings" article at the following website:

A NSBA publication at the following website:

"Guide Specification for Steel Bridge Bearings Design and Detailing" from the AASHTO/NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration Task Group 9, Bearings.

Hope this helps.
