I am a plant engineer and I have been asked to look at installing a deluge system on the flash drum pumps of our coldbox. The pumps operate at around -40 degrees. Every other major set of pumps in our plant was built with a deluge so I'm thinking there must be a good reason for not installing it on these pumps. The fluid in being pumped is isobutylene. Can any one tell me if I should or shouldn't intall a deluge on these pumps? I am leaning towards not doing it but I need justification.
