HI Guys,

I currently rand into a problem with a .stp model that was sent over to me. The step model was sent over to me a 1 body assembly meaning i am not able to take out the insert or screw? any ideas how i can go about this? NX8.5 or 10.0?

see attached .stp model.

Of course the easiest solution is to go back your 'source' and ask for a STEP model of just the holder.

But barring that, the only other approach is to use brut-force methods. In this case, the creation of tool bodies to help remove the big chunks of geometry and then using Synchronous Modeling tools to remove/replace the remaining bits and pieces of topology.

Anyway, see the attached model for what I think is the final model that you're looking for.

I left all the features in so that you could review (by using Feature Replay) how I accomplished this. Of course, for your use I suspect that you could simply remove all the parameters and the resulting 'dumb' model would be good enough for whatever use you need to his model for, but that's up to you. Note that I did all the work in NX 8.5.
