Don't know. But it is happening quite often now a days and I saw three threads asking for same explanation with in a week. If you are confident even after learning the eng-tips.com rules, you can write to the site adminstrator.

I had questions about building A/C unit for my submerged computer and mentioned that I am not a engineer, should have probably said A/C engineer. I guess I crossed the line since my engineering field is electronics. That's life. Thanks
I responded to a thread thread378-39670 which dissapeared (the whole thread) probably more than a year after it was last replied to. To my knowledge there was nothing offensive or inappropriate in this thread. The site administrator had this response:
"I checked and the thread is gone. I don't know why except for the fact we do delete certain members who have been troublesome or we find to be students cheating on their homework."
Just to let you know that it could also happen without specific reason.
If you said you weren't an engineer, that's probably "what raised the flag." If you had said that you were an electronics engineer and not an a/c engineer, it likely would have been ok.

As TD2K said, the site is supposed to be for engineers asking professional questions. As I am a nuclear by degree, but mostly do mechanical work in practice, I can sympathise with beppi. I'm still an engineer; however, that doesn't mean I know everything a true mechanical engineer would. However, what the red flag does is ask the site administrators to review the post - it's a way to make sure the site is being used the way they envinsioned it would. A while ago, I wrote a FAQ about what are the site "rules" - this has been ok'd by the site administrators as well as having been run by some of the more senior members of the site. Interesting that I actually get more responses to my "delete" question then to the question I actually had. To TD2K, at least you admitted to get me deleted but to the answer "why not put the computer in a other room" very simple, I have a computer room with 2 computers, my wife has a computer room with 3 computers and some of the rest of the house we like to use for the regular things like bed room, living room etc.... (where are the smilies)a other point too,even with a server in a other room you still need a terminal and today they are not without fans either so it would defeat the purpose of almost noiseless room. If there are noise in a room it should be definetly not noise from fans in a computer. I design allmost all day on blue prints over chips and boards, therefore I like to do something hands-on in between. Since I really never designed in A/C I taught I could get a faster result by asking and since it is actually a petproject maybe TD2K was right to get it deleted.
