Definition of wire-to-work

The term "wire-to-work" is used in CAC's source book "Improving Compressed Air System Performance".
An example is:
Compressed air systems usually have a wire-to-work efficiency of around 10 percent, which is very low.

What is "wire-to-work"?

Wire power is the electrical power consumed (usually means at the meter, but could also be interpreted as the electrical power input at the compressor's motor) divided by Compressor output power received by the gas. At the meter would include all electrical loses from the meter to compressor motor, such as line resistance, transformer losses, VFD efficiency, motor efficiency, gearbox or drive friction, and compressor efficiency, whereas "compression efficiency" would normally only account for the efficiency of the compressor alone.
