We have to repair a thermo power unit with four coupled rotors. I must manage with a suggestion from my superior which I cannot deny it (do you imagine!).

Could you tell if I intend to change one of these rotors, it is absolutely necessary to decouple all that rotors for alignment and we should be confident in the existing one?

Thank you,
Garkonme

Hi Garkonme,

For your equipment safety and reliability+availability, it depends. I would suggest you to decouple. If you think the alignment of others is ok. So you take them as a detum (subjected to your left one is moveable). Other than this you have to discouple and realign all the shafts.
