Do a search - this issue has been discussed so many times over the last 10 plus years. I would take it that you are talking the TTRL miniature (small) dynamic cone test (
). This uses a very small hammer. For me, dynamic cone tests can also include a 60 degree cone driven by a 140 lb SPT hammere dropping 30 inches (pentest in Canada). There is also the Mackintosh Probe, the JKR Probe, etc.
