Damping factor for steel

What is the material damping to be used for steel structures?

Recommended for you

Typical values are from 1-3% of critical damping for jointed structures (at least in automotive).

we typically use 3% in simulations (aerospace mechanical systems) and it ties up with test results pretty well.
