D1.1 Prequalified Base Metal Groups on WPS

When writing a prequalified WPS, I'd like to list Group 1 to Group 1, rather than list the specific ASTM # of the materials, in order to reduce the # of WPSs that I need to create.

Is this allowed per AWS D1.1? I haven't found anything in the code that restricts this?
