F1 engines have each bank offset to the lower side of the engine, that is, the intersection of the cylinder centre lines is below the crank. This is done to to reduce the cg height.

Presumably it has very little effect on the power output of the engine, otherwise they wouldn't do it.

It's that bloody "leverage" word again!

Note to OP: Check out the VW range of VR engines too. It's all about packaging in that case - a short V engine with a single cylinder head.

I think everyone knew what you were talking about
I was just confused by some of your #s.
Is that diagram referring to a specific engine ?
I'm not sure I agree With claim of max pressure and max leverage coinciding. and not because i think that word should be used only by dead Greeks and physicists, but because it appears to at best move the two closer

I did check out the VW as you suggested last go round and was amazed, it along with some of the other posts convinced me that offset has less effect than I would have thought. I would still like to witness some power balance testing on it and the sites I looked at could have been better.
