In compressor station design, it is mandatory that the gas entering the centrifugal compressor should be free from dirt, solid particles and liquid droplets. I am involved in booster compressor stations design project. In the design, we considered the following arrangement for the process gas flow to the compressor during normal operation:
Natural gas from pipeline – Dry gas filters (operational during plant start-up and for a period of time before its taken offline) – Cyclone separator (Gasunie type) – Compressor suction flange.

The cyclone separator (2 per train) was chosen because it gives us economical viable vessel due to the volume of gas is expected to handle per train. The conventional scrubber design gives a larger vessel dimension. Each compressor train handles an estimated gas flow of 1,359,000 kg/hr.

Please, I would like contribution on the separation efficiency of cyclone separator, its minimum pressure drop across the vessel, etc.
