Hi everyone my name is Giovanni and I'm studding to get my welding inspector certified.
I have been in the field for almost 16 years, and have been doing all the processes. also I finished my two years degree in welding technology. I started a month ago to study all the books that I both in AWS to learn how i can pass the welding inspector test.
off curse is very hard and a'm trying to get all the information but i don't have any idea about the codes.
If someone know any web or good tip where I can get more knowledge that would be very help full for my

I would start with the AWS website,

http://www.aws.org,

and look up the information for the CWI examination. It will offer several choices for the open code book examination, i.e., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX with B31.1 and B31.3 (one examination), API 1104, etc.

Once you have decided which examination is applicable to the type of welding your do, purchase a copy and start reading.

I've checked AWS and bought all the books except the code books. I'm not sure what code book I'm going to study. Some people are saying that api 1104 is easier than d1.1, but I"m not sure. Thats why I'm searching everywhere to have an idea. Does someone know if there is a practice test available or a book of practice questions or something like that?
My problem is that for the last 6 years I have been welding aerospace using gtaw using super alloys, but I would like to grow in the company.

I've taken the exam under 1104 and D1.1 [long story]. Being an ASME guy that does some AWS work, I found 1104 to be perverse and difficult. The D1.1 test was easy for me -- missed 2 questions. Had my D1.1 well highlighted [per training class taught by AWS] and tabbed the major items and chapters. Thicker codebook does not equal tougher test.

I did extremely well on the D1.1 test, thanks to the prep course. The prep course had both 1104 and D1.1 applicants. Only one part of the test is differentiated by the code chosen. I have heard that the 1104 code is the easier test.

The 1104 test used to be easier, but AWS increased the number of test questions accordingly. I work with AWS codes, and still find the API book the easier of the two to work with. If you create your own index/TOC for the API book and recognize beforehand where the information is, it's pretty straightforward. Much of the information in 1104 is derived from footnotes under the tables, etc, rather than being spelled out explicitly in the code paragraphs.
