Customer Defaults

The vast majority of our part files are Metric, as such, I've configured Customer Defaults accordingly.

I do require the need to support some Inch part files. I'd prefer not to have to go through all of the Customer Defaults again, configuring them for Inch. Is there any way to transfer the Metric settings to Inch ?

I am unsure if the drafting prefernces will be updated or not with what in mentioned in the post

Jerry, I'm not looking to convert the part file, I just want to create Inch Customer Defaults that are the same as the Metric Customer Defaults.

For example, for the Metric Customer Defaults I've configured the colors for all drafting objects. I don't want to have to go through all of that again for the Inch defaults.

You should be able to copy the customer default file, rename it and then edit the settings you want to be english units.

Only customer defaults that use part units have english and metric values.
For a color, there is a single customer default for both.

If you don't want to use the UI, you could programatically edit your site or group default file, and calculate/modify the _EU equivalents for the _MU items, but that could be risky.

You could also write a vb journal to set them all, but that's a lot of work.

In the time it would take to write either program, I think you could interactively go through them all in the UI, and export the changes.

There is ONLY ONE Customer Default file. It contains BOTH the settings for Metric and Imperial unit part files. The setting which states whether the Default Units are 'Inches' or 'Millimeters' is just to set which units that you're seeing at that instant. In your case, start out setting the 'Millimeters' settings and when you've got everything set as you want them, then go back and switch the Default Units to 'Inches' and repeat the process. I suspect that you will see that settings that are NOT based on numerical distances will be what you've already set. Now if most of your work is in Metric, then set the Default Units back to 'Millimeters' and then save you customer defaults. Now when you go and create a new part, depending on whether you're creating a Metric or Imperial unit model, the relevant Customer Defaults will be used.

Starting off with Metric, I set Dimension, Appended, Tolerance and General text color to Green. I now switch to English and Appended and General text color remain as Green, but Dimension and Tolerance text color are using the default of Black.

I'm trying to avoid having to go through all of the Customer Defaults twice making sure that Metric and English are synchronised.
