Curved Monorail

All,

I am tasked w/ analyzing an existing monorail which just so happens to be curved in plan.

I am basically planning on checking DG #9 torsion analysis via force couple in the flanges. I am not worried about this.

My question is more regarding Web Local Bending at the supports. I was given the attached paper, which is simple enough to understand, except I am just having a brainfart understanding what is the torsional moment to be resisted versus the resultant moment (see fig. b)?? Basically what moment does the web actually need to be designed for.

Also, because this is localized at the support, I'm only planning on combining this force w. web tension, but not bottom flange bending or the overall moment because those are at mid span... just wanted a sanity check that this is right?

Thank you! Def. need the help on a Friday! ha

The web needs to be designed for the end reaction (needs to be able to carry the torsion reaction at the support). For example force in one flange times depth. You work out the capacity based on the effective width of web bending about the thickness of the web.
