I am attempting to understand the power flow in a shunt capacitor. I understand that basic concept in regards to a capacitor but I would like to understand its behavior with an AC, 60hz source. Does the capacitor charge and discharge 60 times per second as the AC oscillates from positive to negative (60hz)?. Is there any good links that would explain this in more detail?. I know there is no power flowing in between the plates through the insulating material that separates them and the shunt capacitors are only connected at one point per phase to the line, so how does the current "return" flow back into the circuit?
Thanks
