I am in the process of designing coolant passages for an internal combustion engine. The water pump produces 200gpm
and the outlet cross sectional area is 1.58in2. I must split
the flow in half since it is a v8 engine. I must feed .363in2/cylinder or 1.452in2 per bank. (2.904in2 total)
This is due to a requirement of a pressurized system and .363in2/cylinder is the smallest we can produce.
Do I need to increase the cross sectional area of the pump
outlet, or will the 200 gpm overcome the cross sectional
area of the banks? Any websites, books, comments or formulas
on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
