Is there a web site where I can cross reference material specifications:

e.g.: If I enter werkstoff no. 1.7225 I can get a list of all the possible equivalents.

This type of feature may be available at which is the online service from the producers of the excellent steel reference Stahlschluessel (translates to "key to steel"). I do not know if you are required to be a registered user or if the site charges a fee for access. I know of no other online source of this information, which is why ASM International and all of the other producers of reference material sell so many books on this subject.

Please have a look at the FAQ titled "Material Search".

I agree with MAT WEB, they have just revamped thier site, and it works ok. even has printer firnedly pages.

Unfortunately, it does not include the stupid factor. That is when someone askes for a spec and only gives a partial code, thinking the first few leters do not count or the heat treatment code is only there to make the spec look intresting, so they omit it. (oops sorry, ranting there)
