Creating a hatching.

Hi everyone.

I have a question about hatching.
How do you create a new hatching pattern? My boss wants one that isnt in solidworks.

I didnt find how to do that in the help files or in those forums, is it even possible?

You can create your own material file. Each material has it's own hatching. It's in Help.

Thank you for the quick respons, but creating a new material doesnt allow me to create a new hatching texture.

Could you change the scale & orientation of one of the 72 hatches that are currently listed to get near to what you need?

Just noticed in your second post that you mentioned, "create a new hatching texture". Are you looking for a Hatch pattern for a drawing, or a Texture for a part?

Try this:

Open the SolidWorks DWGEditor.

Draw your hatch pattern that you want.

At the command line, type the command, "mslide"

This will open up a "Create Snapshot" dialog box. Save the slide that you are about to create into the appropriate subdirectory (I think the default is c:\program files\solidworks\dwgeditor\patterns\)

It should, I think, then show up in your list of hatch options.

Cor, sorry about the misunderstanding, I want a Hatch pattern for a drawing.

I think I'm gooing to try Gbor's method.

To create a new "hatch pattern". you need to edit the sldwks.ptn file found in the SW\lang\english folder with Notepad.

An explanation of how it is setup and directions are included in the file.

Be warned that attempting to edit this file is not something everyone is able to successfully do.
