Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could help me to understand the eccentricity equation in Example 1 contained in the CIRIA report C761.

The equation is Eccentricity, e2 = Md x sin(45) / Fd,

Where
Md is the moment,
Fd is the vertical force

I understand, that the eccentricity is = Md/Fd, however it is the inclusion of sin(45) that I don't quite get.

I know the question is quite specific, but If anyone has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated!

Md is moment on the diagonal, so perhaps the eccentricity is being defined relative to the orthogonal axis?
