Does anyone have any recommendations for coupling (gear type) grease for a variable speed aplication? The shaft speed could range anywhere from 300 rpm to 3000 rpm for any lenght of time.

Suggestion: Visit
click on Product Search and enter Gear Coupling and click Go.

etc. for more info from the gear industry since the gear may also have impact on the type of grease

Also, visit
(for fairly stiff grease)
etc. for more info

There is an EPRI Guide which lists some options for couplings:

Chevron Coupling
Exxon Ronex Extra Duty*
Falk LTG
Mobil Mobilux EP 111
Texaco Coupling

It looks like all the big guys can offer you something as long as you tell them the application. One thing unique about coupling greases is they need to resist separation under centrifugal force. We have seen first hand the effect of using general purpose (non-coupling) grease on gear coupling... not good.

Thanks, all. I know the higher the RPM, the higher the NLGI #. This application will run at both low and high RPM, so I'll likely use a #1.

I know FINA (now part of TotalFinaElf) had a grease called Fina Marson EPL1 which was specifically designed for use ingear couplings. Recommended by ESCO Gear couplings as well. Used it in SA with god results.

Suggestion: The coupling grease good for high and low RPM should be preferred.
