Hi,
I'm designing a gearbox driveshaft and I'm interested to use AISI 4340 as material.

Is advisable to apply a plating/coating or a thermal treatment in order to improve the corrosion resistance on the spline teeth?

Thanks
Pierluigi

Perhaps if you could explain the environment the shaft will be used in, then someone could better answer your question.
Use caution when plating this type of material, due to an increased risk of Hydrogen Embrittlement.
