Hi,

can anyone tell me what is the corrosion allowance for
materials(all) vs various flow medium?

thanks,
uthaya

uthaya:

In my experiences working with ASME Section VIII (Div. 1) and Section I, the normal corrosion allowance for carbon steel is 1/16 in. (I normally work pressure vessels containing water). Sometimes companies request that we follow the recommendations of HEI (heat exchange institute) which recommends 1/8 in. corrosion allowance (carbon steel). Stainless steel vessels containing water usually do not have a corrosion allowance.

Hope this helps!

I work for oil and gas industry. Typical Corrosion Allowances for gas industry are mentioned below:

Wet Gas Piping :
Velocity > 25.0 ft/sec : 1/4"
Velocity < 25.0 ft/sec : 1/8"
Dry Gas Piping : 1/16"
Wet Gas Vessels incl. : 1/8"
Absorber Columns
Dry Gas Vessels : 1/16"
Glycol Piping & Vessels: 1/8"
Glycol Still Column : 1/16"
incl. Reflex Coil
Glycol Reboiler Coil : 1/8"
Rich/Lean Glycol

More to follow.
