A new 230kV vertical mounted disconnect switch was recently commissioned in a substation and we noticed that significant audible buzzing was coming from the terminals (more than you would normally expect). I am trying to determine the source of the corona discharge and how to mitigate to a more reasonable level. We are using single 1590 AAC single conductor for each of the terminations.

Any thoughts as to the potential sources and/or mitigation strategies?

Thanks

You might want to attach a picture of the installation.

You could buy/rent an ultrasonic camera to pinpoint the area involved.

You could use a corona camera available in the market now a days find the weakest point and then rectify.

Don't you use anti-corona rings on your terminals? You can Google it.
