Core Slab Capacity

I am in the process of evaluating the load capacity of the precast concrete roof. The roof consists of 20’LG. x 4’Wide x 8”Deep precast core slabs which supports a typical built-up roof. My problem is that the existing plans do not indicate the pre-stressing strand details and visual inspection is limited. I am wondering if anyone can provide some insight on how to properly estimate the capacity of the core slabs without destructive examination. What core slabs were available back in the 80’s?

Do you mean hollow-core planks?

Core slab, as far as I know is the name of a company that fabricates precast members.

If you mean hollow-core, I know there are published tables out there for typical hollow-core sizes. You could look at these and be very conservative and assume worst-case everything, just to get an idea.

Do the existing plans note what load they were designed for?

Check with local suppliers.

See if you can get a peek at the end to determine the strand and number, then check with a local supplier. Depending on the strand pattern the range of load capacity can be great... from 60 psf to over 200 for a 20' span.
