Corbel Design Confusion (ACI)

Hi, I haven't done a corbel design before and confused how ACI approaches it.

My main question is: Is it possible to make corbel without strut and tie method?

In ACI, shear is covered by shear friction provision and moment by chap22.2 (sectional strength). Is it only asking to calculate shear friction interface rather than the shear of corbel section? For the moment, is it asking to calculate it like a regular beam with sectional strength provision? Corbel is technically a deep beam and I know strut and tie will work but I am wondering if there is a faster way to get around.

Thank you in advance

When last I designed a corbel, one had the option of either STM or the shear friction approach. The PCI manual shows the shear friction approach and, in many instances, that seemed to produce designs that were both construction friendly and quick to design.
