i have a chain driven staker conveyor to move 50kg fertiliser bags up a 35deg incline. This system is now old and now causing frequent chain breakage breakdowns. I want to convert the staker conveyor into a belt conveyor using reclaimed belts from coal plant so as to eliminate these constant downtime at minimum cost. My problem is to determine the coeficient of friction between conveyor rubber and fertiliser bag to determine if it is enough to avoid the bag slipping due to the steep incline

That's nice.

So you think that someone here has a valid value for friction between two vaguely identified materials?

You have the materials. Do a test.

^this.
Also, make sure you test both static and dynamic coefficients.

Many factors come into play, bag material, speed, conveyor design etc
My Gut feel is that "old" coal plant belts will not work.

A static test will not prove anything, as you require the dynamics of movement to get a true result.

There are speciality belts available that will succeed at steep angles, talk to a belt supplier.

You can always do an incline plane test, but that's only going to tell you how much angle it takes to break the static friction. It won't take into account dirt, inertia or vibration.

We usually just call in our belt supplier, and they will have samples for us, and we make the best decision on that. Don't spend any time worrying about the cost because the time you spend experimenting will just waste your money. Just get in the experts, and get it done.

If you are going to switch to flat belt , don't mess around figuring out friction coefficients.
Just install cleats on the belt and be done with it.
