Is there a 3rd party (preferably freeware) program that will convert simple models from Abaqus to Ansys format & vice versa?

I dont really want to reinvent the wheel but if I have to then I have to.

I dont have an Ansys license but one the pieces of software I am using will only deal with Ansys models.

Thanks

Nic

If you have an ABAQUS licence, it comes with converters usually called aba2ans or similar.

Nic: I do not know if there is a free utility out there. If the model is simple, then translator utilities that come with solvers should be good enough. I know Abaqus has one such utility, as bkal mentioned above. If you have access to HyperMesh, then it will allow you to perform the translation.

Thanks for the pointers, I have no idea why I didnt try Abaqus's in built translators, too close to the problem I guess.

@aerostress82: I tried their converter & have posted on that thread the results (it didnt work) thanks for the link.

What do you mean "flat"?

flat input deck = no part or assembly definitions

Before you write your input file in CAE go to Model -> Edit Attributes and check the box that says "Do not use parts/assemblies in input files"
