Converting .max files to use in NX

Per the subject, what is a recommended way to do this if you dont have 3Dmax ? Any converters that highly rated ?

I an not familar with .max files, but if you have the ability to convert the .max file to a parasolid ot STEP files it can be easily brought in NX.
